Chapter VIII ~A HERO IS ONLY A HERO IF HE PUTS SOMEONE ELSE IN DANGER ~
Jack put his face to the wall and poked his left eye out to look around the corner; a single guard ran though the hallways, he seemed to be searching for someone and was heading their way, they were sure they had heard several gunshots in this direction.
Jack looked back to Hollister and the Insurrectionists, giving them hand signals that told them that one guard was on its way and that he was going to take him down. The moment the guard approached the corner and turned into them, walking right into Jack.
'Hey, I need help the bitch of a prisoner, she just took down . . .' The guard suddenly realized he was not talking to a security guard and began to pull out a pistol at his hip, but the others were already way ahead of them, each of them: Hollister and the three Insurrectionists had weapons aimed at him, Jack just chuckled.
'It is not nice to call a woman a bitch, take us to her or I will make you wish that you never turned that corner.' Jack explained and motioned to the rifle hanging at his hip, held in one hand while his other grabbed the guard by his throat, turning him slowly and pushing the rifle into his back.
The guard proceeded down the corridor at the will of the pulse rifle at his back. The three Insurrectionists watched his back while Hollister kept his rifle aimed down the corridor in front of them. Jack calmly kept prodding the guard in the back to keep him aware that at any moment Jack could pull the trigger and quickly end his life. As they rounded another corner the guard suddenly stopped, an eyebrow raised on Jacks face as he gave the guard another prod but he did not move.
'Captain' Hollister spoke as he lowered his rifle and nodded down the approaching hallway, Jack quickly looked at Hollister then down the hallway at a red headed female holding up her trousers from a torn belt and a pistol in her hand. The moment she saw the guard, she pulled up the pistol up to fire with both hands and fired, letting her trousers fall to the floor.
Jack could not help but stare as the guard in front of him fell to the floor and the view of Tona bending down to pick up her trousers.
"Oh for the Gods Sake, Finally find you guys and you are all staring with mouths agape" Tona spoke as she walked over to them, Jack turned to see the others all in similar slack jaws.
"Sorry Tona, we are just admiring the view" Jack let out a chuckle and handed her a spare clip for the pistol.
"Oh ha, now you're a joker; just get me out of here, I need a bath." She stated and followed them back to the docking hatch. Bodies littered the halls leading up to the docking hatch; every single one had either his neck slit or had their neck broken.
"Nice work Hollister, you really know how to make an impression" Tona spoke with a chuckle as she stepped over one of the dead bodies.
"Thank you ma'am" He replied as if her little joke was nothing more than a compliment. Looking back down the hallway Jack managed to get the first glimpse of the 'rapid' response to their escape. Although the guards so far had been missing the one thing that makes a good guard, brains, these ones may not have been quick but they were on the ball as the moment they saw Jack he found himself diving for cover behind a branching corridor. Luckily, the others had managed to dive for cover the moment the first shot had gone by their heads. Jack fired several shots down the corridor as he began to run backwards down the corridor to the open and awaiting airlock. Hollister was right behind him and fired several shots himself before the pair turned and ran for the airlock.
At full throttle, shots fired over Jacks shoulders or bounced off his Apag's personal kinetic barriers, Tona was right behind him; well he thought she was, when he got to the airlock he turned to find she was not behind him, she had fallen over one of the bodies Hollister had taken care of on his rescue mission.
"Hollister! Cover me!" Jack yelled at the top of his lungs as he spun on his heel, after looking at Hollister, back down the corridor and charged; dropping his gun down on the floor behind him. All he heard was Shots fly over his shoulder, or collide with his Kinetic barriers, fired from both Hollister and the Imperial forces. As he neared Tona, Jack went into a slide and landed next to Tona.
All she could hear was the pulse of plasma fire and the fizzle of it landing around her, She thought she was going to die for sure this time, more so then inside the guards quarters. Now she knew she was dead, she heard a noise to her side, it sounded like a voice; her tear stained vision began to focus into who it was and she saw it was Jack. He was saying something she did not hear, the movement on his lips said something like 'follow me' she nodded slowly and rose to her feet in a low crouch.
The pair ran for the sealed door as fast as their legs could carry them; shots flew past their shoulders, Jack kept behind Tona and used his Apag's kinetic barriers to protect her unshielded body. Managing to make it to the airlock, Hollister slammed the button to seal the airlock. Jack and Tona lay panting on the floor; Hollister was already ordering the crew on the bridge to set sail.
Walking onto the bridge Jack jumped into the captain's chair while Hollister took his place at his console on the other side of the room; outside though the plasti-glass view screen the space station had began to open fire at close range on the ship. Hollister activated shields and began to charge weapons; Jack ordered the helm to take them further out from the station.
